Sky pencil holly leaves turning brown
Botryosphaeria canker, also known simply as die-back, occurs when the Botryosphaeria fungus enters the 'Sky Pencil' holly's system through breaks or cuts in its stems. The fungus causes the bark and woody tissue around the infection to collapse and turn brown to black, says PennState Extension.
How do you revive Holly pencils?
The disease can cause leaf drop and shoot dieback. Treat the disease by pruning infected growth or by spraying the shrub with a fungicide containing thiophanate-methyl. Spray the shrub with an even coat of 12 to 16 ounces per 100 gallons of water every 10 to 14 days, starting when the new foliage emerges.
Why are my pencil holly leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves on holly trees is a fairly common problem for gardeners. On a holly, yellow leaves typically indicates an iron deficiency, also known as iron chlorosis. When a holly plant does not get enough iron, the plant cannot produce chlorophyll and you get yellow leaves on your holly bush.
